Dinner starts at 5:30 with the discussion starting around 6:45 to 7:00 PM. We meet at the Galpin Ford’s Horseless Carriage restaurant, located at 15505 Roscoe Blvd in Van Nuys, just east of the 405, in the back room. We will enjoy the Christmas lights at Naples Island on this festive walk.    Park near Marlena Cafe at 5854 E. Naples Plaza, Long Beach. We will meet outside the restaurant and go for our walk around the Rivo Alto Canal and enjoy the lights and festive atmosphere.  After the walk we will return to Marlena Cafe for dinner. You can come just for the walk, or just for the dinner, or, best, come for both. This month we are doing the Hebrew letter kaph, which stands for the guttural CH as well as the K sound. Since there are two other letters that stand for only one of these sounds in modern Hebrew, kaph is not commonly used in transliterations. However, it is very much used in ancient Near Eastern names, including Canaan and Kurdistan, both of which are represented by this month's restaurant. We’ll have another great party at the home of our Local Secretary Samuel Moses, 821 Dickson Street in Marina del Rey 90292 (near Lincoln and Washington). Just look for holiday decorations in the yard, and you’ve found the place! We are having another “Tacky Gift Exchange.” If you want to participate, bring a cheap or funny gift. Last year we had vinyl records up for grabs, including Elvis and Liberace. This time we’ll have a vinyl Beatle record!  Street parking.  No need to RSVP, just be there! Since the fourth Sunday of the month is Christmas Eve, we are once again having Sunday Salon on another day. This month we are going to Aunty Maile's in East Torrance. This Hawaiian hole in the wall was recently reviewed in the Eat the World Los Angeles blog (eattheworldla.com) and its other online reviews are also very good. The place has all the Hawaiian staples such as spam musubi, ahi poke, and the wonderful cakes.
